Dreaming Of Travelling Again?

Have you been dreaming of lying in the warm sun or diving in salty water? Exploring foreign food markets or taking your children on their dream holiday? But you are unsure of travelling during these times? Not to worry, our clinic is now selling Covid-19 PCR Tests in Bury!

COVID-19 has greatly impacted us all in different ways and has drastically changed the way that we live, and the way that we travel. Since early 2020 the travel industry has been almost non existent, with millions of people worldwide having to cancel their travel plans. Several months later and things are beginning to look somewhat brighter. Airlines are opening up routes and people are beginning to travel more frequently. There are however certain rules and restrictions that we need to adhere to before we go on our next big adventure!

Travel restrictions are changing everyday with many airlines and countries asking their passengers and visitors for Fit to Fly certificates to prove that they have had a negative COVID-19 test result in the 72 hours prior to their travel. Over the course of the Covid-19 pandemic, the importance of reliable, accessible testing to screen for the Coronavirus disease has become increasingly apparent and that is why we at Bury Travel Clinic have partnered up with Pharmadoctor to provide COVID-19 PCR tests in Bury as well as Fit to Fly Certificates.

What Is A PCR Test?

PCR stands for Polymerise Chain Reaction. This test is designed and used to directly detect the presence of the genetic materiel/antigens of the COVID-19 virus rather than the presence of the body’s immune response, or antibodies. This is only possible if the virus is present and someone is actively infected. The tests can tell whether or not someone has the virus very early on by detecting viral RNA (ribonucleic acid), which will be present in the body before antibodies form or symptoms of the disease are present. At the moment the majority of the current Covid-19 tests that all the reports are coming from are using the PCR test. PCR tests give us a good indication of who is infected and who is not.

Who Is The Test For?

The COVID PCR tests are for people of all ages who are planning a holiday or need to travel abroad. Most travellers are now required to have a certificate/document to prove to airlines and countries they are visiting that they do not have an active COVID-19 infection.

Please note that the test is not suitable for those who have COVID-19 like symptoms or for those who have had symptoms up to 28 days prior to the test – these people should follow all government guidance regarding self-isolation and testing.

As regulations might differ, depending on the destination or airline, please also make sure that you check for the most up to date travel information. You can do this by speaking to your airline directly or by simply visiting the Foreign Office website where more details and guidance can be found.

What Is The Process?

Our Travel Clinic are now selling COVID-19 PCR tests in Bury that can be done by you in the comfort of your home! The PCR Test Kits that we supply are a simple nasal swab test and these are sold for £130. You can do the test yourself or get a member of your family to help you.

Once you have done the test the sample will need to be posted – a pre paid royal mail envelope is provided. It can take up to 72 hours to receive your certificate via email, if a certificate is required sooner it is advised to use your own courier to deliver the sample. It will then make its way to the laboratory to be tested for the presence of COVID-19 infection. This test will be carried out by a fully trained healthcare professional.

If you would like the swab to be carried out by one of our pharmacists this can be done and we offer this service for £160.

Your result and Fit to Fly certificate (if negative) will be emailed to you as soon as your results are ready. This is usually within 24 hours of the laboratory receiving your test. The laboratory operates 7 days a week so there is no need to worry about delays on the weekend!

Please note that we are only selling the antigen tests, therefore we cannot take responsibility for any test or travel disruption. If you would like to discuss the test with one of our team members, please contact us today! These tests are also being used within the UK Governments national COVID-19 testing program.
